Tips on whatching videos/movies

Tips on how to make videos and movies more productive.

1. Elicit students to guess what the video/movie is about through showing them the cover and reading out loud the blurb. This will let students imagination soar and have them be interested in and grab their attention on what they are watching.

2. Make sure your students understand very well what you expect of them, so there shall not be any need to interrupt/ talk/ fidget/ go in or out much while the video/movie is on.

3. Choose the movies according to the level of your students.i,e. never play a comedy American movies to pre-K students, they will laugh but wont just grasp anything.

4. Never let students choose the movies or videos directly but indirectly. i,e. you are urged to check them before showing any, so by the time you have chosen two/three/four and forth, (movies/videos) so ask students to choose from those you had chosen.

5. Ask your students to copy some vocabulary from the movie/video (4gradsers up) the number of words advisable for the fourth graders is 15-20, for the 5th graders 20-30, for the 6th graders 30-40, for the 7th graders 40-50.

6. Use that vocabulary list to do some creative writing in class, and then give them any vocabulary progress test.

7. you can also have students to listen for gist/specific information/mood and so on. After have a discussion in class

8. You can also do some activities such as EYE-SPAM and reading chunks. (According to the level)

9. Never play movies/ videos with subtitles in L1. but in L2.

10. Try to do some dramatization using the characters from in class- it involves students and have them use their creativity. Suitable for PK and all grades.

IF YOU OPEN IT, CLOSE IT.

IF YOU TURN IT OFF, TURN IT ON.

IF YOU UNLOCK IT, LOCK IT.

IF YOU BREAK IT, ADMIT IT.

IF YOU CAN’T FIX IT, CALL SOMEONE WHO CAN.

IF YOU BORROW IT RETURN IT.

IF YOU VALUE IT, TAKE CARE OF IT.

IF YOU MAKE A MESS, CLEAN IT UP.

IF YOU MOVE IT, PUT IT BACK.

IF IT BELONGS TO SOMEONE ELSE, GET PERMISSION TO USE IT.

IF YOU DON’T KNOW HOW TO OPERATE IT, LEAVE IT ALONE.

IF IT’S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, DON’T ASK QUESTIONS.

IF YOU DON’ T UNDERSTAND, ASK FOR EXPLANATION.
